Each spring, all of the aspiring Graphic Design students apply to be admitted to upper division at Boise State University. This is a bit of a difficult process including finalizing your portfolio comprising of classwork, a compare and contrast essay, and your information. This page includes my portfolio that I submitted and some details on each project.
FORMAL QUALITIES OF A LETTER FORM
The basic unit of typographic syntax and fundamental sign from a letter.
TYPOGRAPHIC SYNTAX AND METAPHORIC REPRESENTATION OF HAIKU
I really wanted to choose a haiku and concept that went beyond college and would reach a broad audience. My wife and I had a new baby and when I found this haiku, it was perfect.

TYPOGRAPHIC SPECIMEN POSTER
Optima typeface, designed by Hermann Sapf is one of my favorites as it does not fall into either of the serif or sans-serif categories. It has a very modern feel, while showing a history of establishment.

DIRECTIONAL POSTER
This project was an interesting one. The goal was to represent my travels to school using only type and color for visual elements.

MODULAR TYPEFACE
Using fontstruct.com, I created two unique typefaces with upper and lower cases, a full set of punctuation, and adjusted kerning for every letter combination involving a consonant and a vowel. For the Digital Stipe typeface, I also created optional glyphs for the vowels to accommodate the German umlaut.
COLLEX ZINE
Probably my favorite project from Boise State University. This zine was an awesome chance to work on a Risograph(Riso). Utilizing the Riso and laser printers, I was able to produce high quality, readably text blocks, while adding vibrant colors to the document. I designed the layout of the entire book. As per the directive from the professor, all of the text and some of the imagery was pulled from Wikipedia. The majority of the photography however is my own.
NVAO
Designing four compositions, using a noun, verb, adjective, and an onomatopoetic word. Designing their descriptions. Letters as Form. I had a lot of fun with this one as well.
SINGLE-PAGE LAYOUT
Composition that is a visual advocacy response to First Things First—a manifesto, by Ken Garland, 1963. Use of two Pantone colors. PANTONE 353 & PANTONE 342, 96pica x 60pica
